So as a suggestion a friend wanted me to write an article that explains the difference between veganism, eating organic, and being gluten-free. These three things intertwine with each other and sometimes it can be hard to understand the difference. First of all let me start with organic.
Organic means something is grown (or raised) without any chemical help. No chemical fertilizers or pesticides. Natural fertiliser like good old poop and other bugs like ladybugs can be used to help plants grow and keep from being eaten. There is a legal certification that makes food organic which vary from country to country which I will not get into here but it involves how much or little chemicals are found in the ground and food that is being grown and how much chemicals are in processed foods. Also animals must not be fed any animal byproducts of have any chemical antibiotics or fed any hormones to make them artificially grow.
Gluten free simply means that someone doesn’t’ eat anything that would have gluten in it, there are several grains that they avoid like wheat rye, barley, and a few others. There a lot of people who have celiac disease or have a sensitivity and have to avoid eating gluten due to those and other medical reasons. There are also people who eat gluten-free because they want to lose weight or other non medical reasons.
Eating vegan simply put means that you don’t eat, wear, or use any animal or animal byproducts if at all possible. I put that last bit in there because sometimes it is unavoidable in this modern age and we all do the best that we can.
Now I myself am a vegan, I love gluten and I try to eat organic if I can afford it but am not not going to eat something if it isn’t organic. I do the best I can, but I am on a tight budget and can’t afford to buy 100% organic especially with all the bananas and tomatoes I eat.
